Biography

As a Partner, Sharin oversees the Corporate and Intellectual Property Practice Groups. Her practice has focused on a wide range of corporate issues, standing out in delicate transactions of mergers, acquisitions, restructuring and financing of foreign investment projects. As a specialist in Competition Law and Intellectual Property, she continuously advises numerous companies in different sectors of the economy, regulated and unregulated.

Sharin was awarded in 2000 a Fulbright Scholarship, an academic program considered one of the most prestigious in the world and created at the initiative of Senator J. William Fulbright, which operates under the auspices of the Office of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the Department of State of the United States and administered in the Dominican Republic by the Franklin Center, attached to the US Embassy. Accepted at Georgetown University for the Master of Laws (LLM), with a concentration in Economic Law and Competition Law, she presented her master’s thesis on the creation of a competition regime in the Dominican Republic and the challenges that its creation implied.

Upon returning to the Dominican Republic, she joined as a Partner of the firm co-participating in the founding of the Corporate Department and later the Intellectual Property Department. Under her leadership, intense corporate activity has developed at ROCA. She has placed the firm among the top law firms in the practice of intellectual property in the country. Her participation encompasses, among other operations, the reorganization, acquisition and merger of one of the largest Dominican companies acquired by foreign capital. Sharin’s portfolio of clients and experience includes the representation of foreign and national capitals for the reorganization of real estate assets, intangible assets, real estate projects for urban and tourist developments.

In December 2012 and then again in December 2015, she was chosen by her Dominican colleagues as National Delegate for the Dominican Republic before the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), position she held until December 2018. From 2016 to 2018, she served as President of the Board of Directors of the Dominican Association of Intellectual Property (ADOPI). She currently serves as Chair of the Committee of Industrial Designs and Trade Dress of ASIPI, Member of the Unfair Competition Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and Member of the Coordinating Committee of the Intellectual Property Commission of the Paris Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

Her practice leads her to interact with clients and collaborate with professionals from the United States, Spain, Germany, China, India, Singapore, Argentina, Haiti, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Cuba, most of the islands of the Caribbean, among others. She has authored numerous publications on issues of competition, corporate governance, telecommunications and intellectual property.
